Filter Single Origin Mutwewathi, Kenya

Mutwewathi Factory is owned by the New Gikaru Farmers Co-operative Society (FCS), which was established in 2001 and now represents more than 4,600 members across five wet mills: Ichamara, Thangathi, Mutwewathi, Kahuro and Kiuu. Producers primarily cultivate SL28, SL34, Batian and Ruiru 11 varieties, with the FCS supporting sustainable farming practices through initiatives including Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) training.

Cherries are handpicked at peak ripeness before being fully washed, sorted and pulped, then fermented in concrete tanks for 12–16 hours. Following fermentation, the coffee is washed through grading channels before the parchment is dried on raised beds and solar dryers over 7–21 days. Frequent turning and careful covering during peak heat help ensure even drying and maintain quality throughout the process.

This AA fully washed lot was grown by smallholder farmers delivering cherries to Mutwewathi Factory in Kenya’s Nyeri County, on the slopes of the Aberdare Ranges. Blessed with rich volcanic soils, high elevations and an ideal climate, the region produces coffees with the distinctive complexity and character that Kenya is celebrated for.

A juicy and complex cup profile, with a vibrant wine-like body. Enjoy layers of grape, blackcurrant and mandarin orange, before finishing with a crisp cherry cola sweetness.

Roasting Note: We're using a balanced, lighter roast, with more heat through the second half of the profile to aid with expansion and development. This keeps the berry notes crisp and the flavour clarity high.

Brewing Note: We recommend starting with a 1:17 ration and a higher brew temperature to enhance the coffee’s exceptional clarity, allowing its sweetness and fruitiness to shine.
