New fashion mecca Emporium Melbourne opened this morning and Auto Espresso was there to provide for the centre's specialty coffee needs - with coffee from Industry Beans! The only specialty coffee bar in the CBD exclusively serving coffee from Industry Beans, Auto Espresso is located in on the lower ground floor of Emporium Melbourne in the new flagship store of designer fashion label Autonomy.
Alongside our rich, delicious Rose Street Blend the white powder-coated La Marzocco Linea PB at Auto Espresso also features a variety of single origins from Industry Beans - they're currently using our fantastic single origin from Carmen Estate, Panama. Emporium looks set to become the shopping destination in Melbourne's CBD and we're thrilled that this stylish new espresso bar is serving Industry Beans coffee! Check out Auto Espresso, get yourself a cup of the Rose Street Blend and go on a spending spree.
Housed in an old shoemaker's shop, Carolina is one of our favourite hangouts in Melbourne's inner north - a cozy coffee house and brunch hotspot by day, a chic art-deco bar by night. We're proud to announce that Carolina is now exclusively serving Industry Beans coffee! Carolina are featuring our new blend - the Rose Street Blend - on their espresso machine, a full bodied, rich espresso experience, balanced with subtle lemon brightness and a long satisfying cocoa finish. They're also planning on serving filter coffee soon, using filter roast single origins from Industry Beans.
We'd highly recommend that you hop on the Nicholson Street tram and check out this lovely gem of a cafe. Chill out with an Industry Beans coffee in the cafe's inviting front room, with its exposed brick and scandavian wood or spend a lazy afternoon in the leafy courtyard. For the nocturnal crowd, Carolina also serves local boutique beers and ciders, a carefully selected range of Australian wines and top shelf liquor alongside an evening bar menu.
With the Industry Beans Roastery operating seven days a week, we always keep the tunes on our (digital) jukebox fresh. Here's a sample of some new music that's been pumping from the speakers at our Fitzroy warehouse this Autumn...
King Krule - Borderline
Banoffee - Ninja
Chet Faker - Talk Is Cheap
War On Drugs - Red Eyes
Yumi Zouma - The Brae
The Industry Beans Cafe and Roastery warehouse has been shortlisted for the 2014 Australian Interior Design Awards! We'd like to pass on our congratulations to Matt Rawlins and the team at Figureground Architecture for designing this vibrant and fluid space that allows us to transparently showcase our whole operation of sourcing, roasting and brewing of specialty coffee.
Missing the sunshine? We've got the perfect cure for your seasonal blues: the Autumn Roast, a rich and satisfying espresso blend.
A limited release seasonal blend, the Autumn Roast features two single origin coffees: a microlot from Santa Felisa Estate, one of Guatemala’s most respected growers, blended with a bold, refined coffee bean from Wahana Estate, one of Indonesia’s most innovative and progressive estates.
We have a direct relationship with Wahana Estate and continue to be blown away by the quality of their coffee. Located in the village of Lae Mungkur near Lake Toba in the Dairi district of North Sumatra, Wahana Estate's processing mills are leading the way in the processing of specialty grade Indonesian coffee. Santa Felisa estate, meanwhile, has been owned by the Meneses family for four generations and has a fantastic reputation. Located in the high altitude region of Acatenango, Guatemala, the estate has ideal microclimatic conditions for coffee growing. This particular microlot is from the San Antonio plot within the estate, grown on trees that are around 40 years old.
The two coffees blend together for a rich espresso experience with a very full, syrupy mouthfeel, a bright lemon acidity, notes of orange and apricot, and a long dark chocolate finish. We'll be serving this delicious blend on the espresso machine at the Industry Beans warehouse until winter arrives.
Order the Autumn Roast from our online shop and we'll post it to you, freshly roasted, anywhere in Australia.
It was our first birthday earlier this month and we celebrated at the Industry Beans warehouse in true Fitzroy style – free espresso coffee for one and all, set to a soundtrack of vinyl records! We brought turntables into the brew bar and the barista team became DJs for the day – all the while pulling espresso shots and showering the neighbourhood with free coffee. Thanks to all of you who came in to celebrate with us.
The Brew Classes that we held in the roastery were also a great success. We consider the growing interest in home coffee brewing to be a terrific development. The expanding knowledge base and expertise of those coffee drinkers who brew at home is raising expectations for Melbourne cafes to serve more sophisticated filter brews. We were heartened by the attendance of all of you who came to the classes on our First Birthday to learn the Industry Beans method to brewing Pourover and Aeropress. For all of you who couldn't make it along, we've decided to hold brewing classes on a regular basis - watch this space for more announcements
On the topic of home brewing, last year we launched our Coffee Subscription Service – a fortnightly supply of our finest freshly roasted beans, delivered to your home or work. As part of our birthday celebration the roasting team gave away a year-long subscription valued at $685. The lucky winner, Sarah, is now receiving all the coffee beans she'll need to brew to her heart's content for the rest of the year. Thanks to all of you who entered the draw and subscribed to our newsletter, we look forward to sharing our journey with you for the rest of 2014!

Earlier this week we were featured in Epicure's article on the latest trends in cold coffee. "Cold coffee has been the cafe star this summer" writes Good Food Magazine's Matt Holden and we couldn't agree more. We've been serving up more and more cold coffee this summer to keep the good people of Fitzroy chilled out during the heatwave. The idea is certainly catching on around Australia: quench your thirst and your coffee cravings, two birds with one stone. Alongside our cold drip and cold brew (pictured above) we've also been offering a delicious Carbonated Cold Drip (pictured below) and all manner of icy espresso.
