FAQs

How is the Clara different from a regular French Press?

Two things set it apart. First, double-wall vacuum insulation holds your brewing temperature steady for a better extraction, and keeps the pot hot for second and third cups rather than going cold on the bench. Second, an ultra-fine mesh filter keeps out much more of the silt and sludge a standard French press is known for - so you get all the rich, full body of plunger coffee with a noticeably cleaner finish.

What coffee beans should I use with the Clara French press?

Espresso roasts work best with a French press. Our espresso blends would all work perfectly with the Clara, explore their flavour profiles to help choose your favourite.

How should I grind my coffee beans for French Press?

A coarse, even grind is the way to go for French press. Too fine and you'll get sediment in the cup and a harsher, over-extracted brew; a consistent coarse grind gives you clean, balanced coffee and makes plunging easier. Use a quality grinder for the best consistency, like the Fellow Opus 2.

How do I make French press coffee with the Clara?

It's refreshingly simple - and thanks to Clara's ratio lines, you don't even need scales to get a great cup. Here's the method:

Add coarse grounds up to the coffee line (around 60g).
Pour in hot water (90–96°C) up to the water line (around 840g).
Give it a good stir for about 30 seconds with the agitation stick, reaching the sides and bottom to break up any clumps - this helps everything extract evenly.
Rest the mesh filter just above the water, pop the lid on, and press down slightly so the coffee stays submerged.
Let it steep for four minutes.
Plunge slowly, then pour and enjoy. Clara's double-wall insulation will keep the rest hot for your next cup.
